Derbies galore in FA Cup draw

The FA Cup draw for the early rounds could mean several exciting local derbies on Merseyside in the world’s oldest and most popular club cup competition.

The Extra Preliminary round sees Bootle take on Alsager Town, AFC Liverpool travel to AFC Blackpool and Formby away to Daisy Hill.

With prize money of £1,000 and potential ties against higher level sides, the North West Counties sides will hope to progess to the First Preliminary round.

This could see AFC Liverpool play Prescot Cables of the Evo Stik North at the Hope Street ground the two clubs share.

The round could also lead to Formby FC playing Skelmersdale and a potential trip to Sheffield, the world’s oldest football club, for St Helens Town if they can beat Abbey Hey in the Extra Preliminary.

If clubs win through this round, a prize fund of £1,750 is awarded – a huge amount for lower league clubs.

Clubs such as Marine will come into the tournament in the First Round Qualifying round, where a trip to fellow Evo Stik Premier side Stocksbridge Park Steels awaits the Mariners with a £2,550 prize awaiting the winners.

The teams will be joined by Tranmere Rovers in the First Round Proper and Everton and Liverpool in the Third Round.

Good luck to all the Merseyside and North West teams in the FA Cup (Unless you go on to draw us at Chasetown FC of course!)

Having been involved with us reaching the First Round Proper in 2005 and Third Round Proper in 2008, for non-league fans the competition will never lose its magic.
